Troubleshooting

• Panel is missing: enable SaveTether, restart the editor, and confirm the project has a working C++ Editor target. Look under Tools > SaveTether or Tools > Tether > SaveTether when the family menu is enabled.
• Example or JSON will not load: use UTF-8, schema 1, the exact case-sensitive document type and field names, strict JSON value types, and supported identity kinds. Check duplicate persistent identities, required fields, control characters, file size, and local path rules. SaveTether does not repair malformed files.
• A path is rejected: use an explicit local path. Network shares, junctions, and symbolic links are unsupported. For output, select an existing local directory and try a new child folder; do not point the plugin at protected or shared release history.
• Review is Partial: read its coverage reason and compare Selected, Inspected, and Skipped. Raise the budget only as needed, up to 100,000, then review again. Never interpret an uninspected identity as Removed.
• Input changed or review is stale: reselect the declaration and baseline files, then run a new review. Changing the output directory alone does not make changed inputs safe.
• A mapping is rejected: inspect SAVETETHER-MAPPING-REJECTED and its reason: Cycle, DuplicateMappingSource, MissingPreviousSource, or MissingDestination. Correct the graph and rerun the review; a rejected proposal blocks capture.
• Capture release is unavailable: confirm status is current and Completed, coverage is full, no mapping is rejected, inputs still match, and the release ID is new.
• Export or capture leaves staging: staging is not a delivered report or release. Inspect it, preserve any file changed by another process, resolve the interference, and retry with an existing output directory. Do not delete staging until you know what it contains.
• Optional AI tools do not appear: SaveTether’s core panel does not require them. In UE 5.8, enable Toolset Registry yourself, restart, and check the Output Log for SaveTetherTools registration; some engine distributions may not include this experimental plugin.
