AI integration setup

Use the optional Toolset Registry adapter without coupling it to native inventory.

On this page

AI integration is optional; the native panel and service work without Python, Toolset Registry, MCP, or an AI client. To enable it on Unreal Engine 5.8, open Edit > Plugins, enable the engine’s Toolset Registry, accept or enable the requested Python Script Plugin dependency if you choose to use it, and restart the Editor. Toolset Registry is Experimental and NoRedist in UE 5.8, is not bundled with MediaTether, and may be unavailable in some engine distributions. MediaTether never changes project settings or enables engine plugins itself.

    The registered MediaTetherTools operations are:

    • start_inventory(): uses the assets currently selected in Content Browser and opens a native picker for an existing delivery root. It does not accept arbitrary asset or filesystem paths from the model.
    • get_status(): advances and reports the current asynchronous inventory or export. Poll until the state is terminal.
    • get_report_page(section, offset, limit): reads findings, records, sources, or reasons; page limits are 1–100.
    • cancel_operation(): requests cooperative cancellation; confirm the final state with get_status().
    • export_manifest(allow_partial=false): requires an eligible reviewed report and opens a native picker for an existing output folder. Partial or cancelled coverage requires explicit allow_partial=true.

After restart, confirm the Output Log reports registration of mediatether_ai.tools.MediaTetherTools. If not, confirm Toolset Registry is enabled and available, restart, and check again; the native panel remains usable without AI.

The AI adapter accepts at most 1,000 selected sources and hard-caps each inventory at 10,000 file records. The native panel/profile limit is separate: 1–100,000 records, with a default of 10,000. Review the scope, absolute paths, coverage reasons, and findings before asking for export. export_manifest writes a report to the exact existing local folder chosen by the user; do not call it until the user explicitly approves. A completed inventory can still contain errors; filesystem metadata is not playback or codec validation. MediaTether never moves, copies, repairs, or uploads source media. See coverage and manifest safety.
