Install MediaTether
Install MediaTether as an Editor plugin and check its dependencies in Unreal Engine 5.8.
On this page
MediaTether is distributed as a source-code Editor plugin. Source installation requires a C++ Unreal project and the Visual Studio C++ toolchain supported by your Unreal Engine version. The initial verified target is Unreal Engine 5.8 Win64 Editor.
- Close Unreal Editor and back up the project.
- Copy the MediaTether folder from the source package to
/Plugins/MediaTether. - Open the project and enable MediaTether in Edit > Plugins. Enable the built-in ImgMedia dependency if prompted; it is required for image sequences and is marked Beta by Epic in UE 5.8.
- Build the project’s Editor target with the compatible C++ toolchain, then restart the Editor.
- Open Tools > MediaTether. If multiple Tether plugins are enabled, use Tools > Tether > MediaTether.
If the project is Blueprint-only, add a C++ module using Unreal’s supported workflow before installing the source plugin. Do not copy Binaries from a different engine version. MediaTether is Editor-only, is not enabled by default, and does not run in packaged games. Settings are project-local; test on a disposable copy first and review compatibility.
